Let it Go, by Chris Williams

Jared and I finally finished reading Let it Go by Chris Williams.  Below, you will find a video clip of his story.

Mormon Messages are made to be short clips to tell a story or give gospel insight.  Right after the crash, he worked with some men that were in the process of making a documentary about forgiveness.  Years later, he felt like he needed to contact them and see if their was any way he could see the film.  They informed him that it had not gone anywhere, because they were asked to help with the mormon messages.  At that point, they chose to make a mormon message about his story.  They used some of the original footage, and new footage that contained the teenager's thoughts as well.

3 Nephi 13:14
For, if ye forgive men their trespasses your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

PS. Today, we started reading Believing Christ by Stephen Robinson.

Forgiveness

Jared and I have been reading a book, called Let it Go by Chris Williams.  The main plot of this store is about a family who got hit by a drunk driver.  Chris' pregnant wife and two of four children passed away instantly.

Before Chris was removed from the car, he decided that he forgave the teenager.  He could for sure feel the pain of losing his wife and children, but he understood that the Savior still loves the teenager, despite choices that were made.

We are now about half way through this book.  It made me think about a few things.

A few weeks ago was the Newtown Connecticut shooting.  I know it was a horrible thing.  Jared was watching a couple different news shows.  One said that despite the tragedy, we needed to remember the shooter's family and they were experiencing a loss as well.  the other said that we needed to forget the shooter and his family because he was horrible.  I am not trying to defend the shooter.  However, Jesus Christ still loves the sinner.

In 2006, Charles Roberts entered a one-room schoolhouse in Amish country.  He let all of the boys leave and then shot 10 girls.  Immediately, the community said that they must not speak evil of the man.  He still have a family that was left behind.  When I was in high school and was inspired by how willing they were to forgive.

Seeing these stories, who in our lives do in our lives do we need to forgive.  We may not have super trying experiences, but we still hold grudges against loved ones.  We need to learn how to forgive and to bring peace into our lives.  Our Savior, Jesus Christ asks that we forgive.  It is not our place to determine whether or not they deserve the forgiveness from our Father in Heaven.

PS.  These are my thoughts and opinions, and are not to be forced on anyone else.

Sharper than a Two-Edged Sword

Doctrine and Covenants, Section 6, Verse 2

"Behold, I am God; give heed unto my word, which is quick and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword, to the dividing asunder of both joints and marrow; therefore give heed unto my words."

Have you ever thought about what it means to be sharper than a two-edged sword?  A three-edged sword?

According to Sister Susan Easton Black, "the Lord can reach the repentant and rebellious alike.  With His power the Lord defends the repentant.  With His strength He pierces the rebellious for embracing false ideas and carnal thoughts."

One scripture that backs up this idea is, D&C 136:33, "For my Spirit is sent forth into the world to enlighten the humble and contrite, and to the condemnation of the ungodly."

I know that a major theme in the Book of Mormon is the Pride Cycle.  The people are righteous and blessed, they start becoming prideful, and then they fall and are forced to be humbled and repent, and around again and again.

The Lord has his hand in every aspect of our lives.  He is blessing those that are righteous, or trying to be the best they can be.  For those that have fallen, he can inspire or push them to repentance and a changed lifestyle.

Bring in the New Year

Today is New Years Day.  This morning, my husband was writing his New Years Resolutions, and I realized I have made no efforts to make anything yet.  However, I have decided one thing.  I need to develop my spirituality.  This will include the following. . .

1. Daily Scripture Study
2. Reading of other LDS literature
3. Daily Prayer
4. Regular Temple Attendance
5. Bearing of Testimony

I plan to blog some of the things I have learned through the above.

I had a BYU professor that told us once, a testimony is borne by the bearing of it.  I plan that as I share my knowledge, that it may help someone, but more importantly, myself.
